This website contains detailed information on the lives of non-European migrants who came to Australia prior the twentieth century. Specific detail is shown to the Chinese immigrants who came to Australia to work the goldfields and the first cameleers from the Middle East. The two assessment tasks are effective methods in gauging their level of understanding in relation to the contributions non-Europeans made to Australia.
More specifically, students will be reproducing the experiences of non-Europeans in Australia prior to the 1900s (such as the Japanese, Chinese, South Sea Islanders, Afghans) (ACDSEH089).

As outlined in the K-10 History Syllabus, the following outcomes will be obtained after the completion of these tasks and website.

Students are asked to create a mind map identifying one non-European migrant group and two key events or contributions to Australian society before the Twentieth Century.
Students are to use this website and any other scholarly resource to help them with the mind map. They are then asked to create the mind map using the web application Popplet.
Upon completion, students are to upload their assessment online onto the Edmodo classroom that has been set up by the teacher.

Teacher tools and hints
- Allow students to create accounts with the necessary websites prior to the commencement of this unit. This will allow class time to be used more efficiently.
- Place students in groups for the assessment task 'Tell Me Your Story'.
- Use the Edmodo classroom for multiple purposes such as updating classroom information, homework, student feedback and tips etc.
